Postdoc/Project Leader in Photonics-5G project

 

The  Photonics Research Labs of the iTEAM Institute are offering a Postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic scientist/engineer, with a background on optical communications, integration systems and integrated photonics, who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The offered position is in the framework of the recent approved RIA project BlueSpace, Building on the Use of Spatial Multiplexing 5G Networks Infrastructures and Showcasing Advanced technologies and Networking Capabilties of the H2020 program and, more specifically, deals with design and fabrication of the Fronthaul End Points of a 5G network based that takes advantage of the Optical Spatial Multiplexing techniques. 

Particularly, s/he will be in charge of leading the execution of the project, tracking the asset generation and the completion of objectives and milestones according to the plan. S/he will also do the interfacing the partners of the consortium and the evaluators in the task related with the hardware design of the End Points.

The contract is offered for a total of up to 3 years (the duration of the project), after a test period of six months. The contract can be renewable after the 3 years with the funds from other projects/grants.

Job offer

PhD position for ERC Consolidator Grant.

The Photonics Research Labs of iTEAM offer 1 full-time PhD positions. The contract is offered for an initial 4-month period (extendable up to 4 years) within the framework of the European ERC Consolidator Grant InnoSpace Revolutionizing fibre-wireless communications through space-division multiplexed photonics.
The candidate should have an Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering Degree (or equivalent Degree) with an academic background in Photonics & Optical communications.
 
Estimated starting date: 01/06/2017

Proyecto: Implementacin de tcnicas de transmisin y recepcin inalmbrica para estndares 5G en una plataforma software-defined radio.

En el marco del proyecto europeo METIS (Mobile Enablers for the 2020 Information Society), se sentaron las bases de las comunicaciones mviles e inalmbricas de quinta generacin (5G) que debern satisfacer las necesidades de comunicacin de la sociedad a partir del ao 2020. En METIS se propusieron diversas tcnicas y algoritmos con mltiples antenas que han demostrado tener un gran impacto sobre la 5G. El presente proyecto parte de los resultados de METIS para demostrar su viabilidad mediante implementaciones en un banco de pruebas.
El becario/becaria tendr que implementar distintos algoritmos de 5G para su prueba de concepto en una plataforma software-defined radio (SDR) compuesta por tres kits WARP v3 (http://goo.gl/yDKUaP). En concreto, los objetivos son:
     Validar la viabilidad de algoritmos candidatos a la 5G mediante una implementacin prctica.
     Evaluar el rendimiento de tcnicas de 5G, en trminos de tasa de error, en un sistema hardware, teniendo en cuenta, entre otros, los efectos de las formas de onda reales y del canal fsico de propagacin.
     Cuantificar las necesidades de memoria de los algoritmos desarrollados.
     Evaluar el coste computacional de la implementacin prctica para comprobar que cumple los requisitos necesarios de tiempo real de la capa fsica de los estndares de comunicaciones mviles de 5G.

Lugar de trabajo: Laboratorios del Instituto de Telecomunicaciones y Aplicaciones Multimedia (iTEAM) de la Universidad Politcnica de Valencia.

Periodo de colaboracin: De 6 a 9 meses.

Cuanta de la beca: 400 / mes.

Perfil del candidato: Ingeniero de Telecomunicacin Especialidad Electrnica o titulaciones afines.

Aspectos valorados: Idioma ingls, experiencia en sistemas de software-defined radio, conocimientos de FPGAs y herramientas de software Xilinx para FPGAs (ISE System Edition y Xilinx System Generator), procesado digital de la seal y programacin en Matlab, lenguaje C y VHDL.
