| Dr. Pascual Muñoz received Ph.D. degree from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) on 2003. He is a Full Professor at the Departamento de Comunicaciones, UPV, and a researcher at ITEAM. Dr. Muñoz has consolidated a research line, started in 2005, on Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) in a technology agnostic fashion, where PICs are designed in the best suited technology (Silicon-On-Insulator, Indium Phosphide, Silica on Silicon, Silicon Nitride) for each application. He has been involved in several EC funded projects, being coordinator for integration on InP within the NoE IST-EPIXNET. He has published over 25 papers in international refereed journals and conferences and is a member of the Technical Programme Committee of the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC). Dr. Muñoz received the VPI Speed Up Photonics Award in 2002 for innovative Fourier optics AWG with multimode interference (MMI) couplers modeling. He was also granted the IEEE/LEOS Graduate Student Fellowship Program in 2002. He received the doctorate prize from UPV in 2006. From his research line he co-founded the UPV Spin-off company VLC-Photonics in 2011, where the PIC design know-how, expertise and tools have been transferred. | Prof. Beatriz Ortega was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1972. She received the M.Sc. degree in Physics in 1995 from the Universidad de Valencia, and the Ph.D. in Telecommunications Engineering in 1999 from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. She joined the Departamento de Comunicaciones at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in 1996 as a Lecturer and she got her Full Professorship in 2009 on Optical Communications. From 1997 to 1998, she joined the Optoelectronics Research Centre, at the University of Southampton (United Kingdom), where she was involved in several projects developing new add-drop filters and twin-core fibre-based filters. She has published more than 200 papers and conference contributions in fibre Bragg gratings, microwave photonics and optical networks, with an H-factor of 18. She has been involved in the EU funded projects IST-LABELS, IST-GLAMOROUS, IST-OFFSOHO, IST-NEFERTITI, IST-EPIXNET, IST-EPHOTON/ONE and ICT-ALPHA. Her recent interests are mainly focused on providing solutions for high performance, reconfigurable and convergent optical networks for wired/wireless services under different scenarios. | |||

| My research career at photonics technologies started at 1993 when joined the Optical Communication Group as researcher and the Communication Department at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) as lecturer and PhD student. From 1994 to 1998 I was a lecturer at the Telecommunications Engineering Faculty and I became an Associate Professor in 1999. I obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications by the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain in 1996. The topic of my Thesis was “Redes de Difracción sobre Fibra Óptica para Procesado de Señales Fotónicas”. I am co-author of more than 225 papers in journals and international conferences in the fields of Optical Delay Line Filters, Fiber Bragg Gratings, Microwave Photonics, WDM and SCM lightwave systems, Optical Fiber Sensors, Silicon Nitride integrated devices for telecom and sensing, and advanced characterization techniques as Optical Frequency Domain Reflectrometry. I have been leader/co researcher (IP) of 3 national projects, related with Metro and Access optical Networks (TEL1999-0437 from 31/12/99 to 31/12/02), and Optical Code Division Multiple Access networks and devices (OCDMA), (TEC2004-04754-01/TCM from 13/12/04 to 13/12/07 and TEC2009-12169 from 01/01/2010 to 31/6/2013), and co-IP in 3 national projects related with Photonic Integrated Technology, Photonic Integrated Filters for Enhanced Signal Processing (TEC2013-42332-P), Silicon Nitride integrated Spectrometers (TEC2016-80385-P) and Plataforma Hibrida Nitruro de Silicio para Circuitos Ópticos Integrados (PID2019-110877GB-I00). I have been leader also of different work packages in european projects as IST-LABELS (Ligthwave Architectures for the processing of Broadband Electronics Signals), or IST-GLAMOROUS (Glass-based modulators, Routers and Switches). In the last two years I have participated in a research and development contract with Huawei Tech. Ltc, and an European project MSCA-ITN-2018-ETN/Nº 812818. Of special mention is the activity in the development of a technology platform at the UPV with capabilities to manufacture passive optical substrates and components based on Silicon Nitride / Silica with the following infrastructure financing: Polo tecnológico UPVfab. She has been an associate professor in the Department of Electronics at Universidad Politecnica de Valencia since 2002. | Gema Piñero (Ms. Telecommunications Engineering, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid ‘90; Ph.D. Engineering, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia ’97) was born in Madrid (Spain) in 1965. She is currently a Professor at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. Since 1992 she has worked in private and public-funding projects on different research topics: array signal processing, adaptive algorithms for active noise control, mobile communications and sound quality. She is part of the Audio and Communications Signal Processing (GTAC) group of the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) of Valencia. She has published more than 80 contributions in relevant journals and conferences on the area. Her current research focuses on neural networks for acoustics, personal sound zones and acoustic networks. She has been a visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2011) and the Imperial College London (2016). | Vicent Miquel Rodrigo Peñarrochawas born in Valencia, Spain, on September 29, 1966. He received the Ingeniero de Telecomunicación degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Madrid, Spain, in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia in 2003. He joined the Departamento de Comunicaciones at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in 1991 as a Lecturer. His current interests include antenna measurement, real and virtual instrumentation, radiowave propagation, and any educational activity. | |||

| Lorenzo Rubio Arjona was born in El Ballestero, Albacete, Spain, in 1971. He received the M.S. and the Ph.D degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, in 1996 and 2004, respectively. In 1996, he joined the Communications Department of the Universitat Politècnica de València, where he is now Associate Professor of wireless communications. His main research interests are related to wireless communications. Specific current research topics include radiowave propagation, measurement and mobile time-varying channels modelling in vehicular applications, ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems and equalization techniques in digital wireless systems.Dr. Rubio was awarded by the Ericsson Mobile Communications Prize from the Spanish Telecommunications Engineer Association for his study on urban statistical radiochannels characterisation applied to wireless communications. | |||

| I have been working in the area of photonics, fiber sensors and optical communications for more than 25 years, since 1993. I am a researcher at the Photonics Research Labs of the iTEAM Research Institute, Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and I am in charge of the fibre devices and fibre sensor research line. I have been: the Vice-Dean of the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Gandía, Campus Gandía, Universitat Politécnica de València, (1997-98), Deputy Director of the Departamento de Comunicaciones, Universitat Politècnica de València, (2004-08), and the Coordinator of the Postgrado studies in Telecommunications (2004-2011) which is one the programs with the higher indexes of quality and number of students in the Universitat Politècnica de València. My main research lines have been: Microwave Photonics, Photonic Components, Slow Light Devices, Fibre Sensors and Optical networks. I have over 140 publications listed in the SCI-JCR (Nature Group, IEEE, OSA, IEE, APS), and over 180 International Conference publications (ECOC, OFC, OFS, EWOFS, CLEO, etc.), 3 Chapters in international research books as well as 11 Patents. I have taken part in 62 research projects of which in 21 I have been the principal researcher (PR) including 6 funded by the European Union, 2 by the European Space Agency, 4 by the Spanish government, 3 by the Valencian regional government and 6 by private companies. Overall, I have been responsible for the rising of an overall turnover of more than 3 million € in photonic instrumentation and infrastructure for ITEAM-UPV Laboratories in Optical Communications. I would like to highlight that I have published in the most prestigious journals of my research field Nature Photonics (1), Nature Communications (1), Scientific Reports (2). I have realized three research stays at very high-quality research centres: Optoelectronics Research Center (Southampton, UK), Imec-Ghent University (Belgium) and DTU Fotonik (Denmark). The current number of citations for my publications is 5826, which leads to an h-index of 36, (Source: Google Scholar). Since 2015 the number of citations for my publications is 3256, which leads to an h-index of 25 (only taking into account since 2015). The index i10 of my publications is 97 and this index i10, referred only to the last five years is 59. I was co-founder of the spin-off CalSens S.L. It has now three employees who have studied their degrees at the Universitat Politècnica de València. CalSens has signed contracts with ESA (European Space Agency), FGV (Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat Valenciana) y Tecnalia, amongst others. I have been co-author of two patents that have been transferred to CalSens which is paying the royalties to the university every year. I have been attending thesis committees around Europe, member of the technical committees of the most relevant international conferences in my field of expertise and I have collaborating in Commissions of Trust for European, National and Regional scientific programs. . Her dissertation was on FPGA implementation of FFT algorithms. She is an associate professor in the Department of Electronics at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
