iTEAM hosts an artistic project on telepresence and digital twins

The UPV Artist-in-Residence Program welcomed creators Colette and Dan to iTEAM, where they are developing a project in collaboration with the Mobile Communications Group (MCG).

Their proposal, titled Sensing Presence, explores new forms of non-visual telepresence, inspired by iTEAM’s research on digital twin technologies applied to the Port of Valencia. The work combines real-time sensor data with acoustic recordings captured through hydrophones, geophones, and microphones, interwoven with an artificial intelligence model trained on historical archives, thus generating alternative interpretations of the port in ecological and atmospheric terms.

Dan is a creative researcher and new media artist, specializing in the expressive possibilities of emerging digital technologies. Her work focuses on interactive installations and participatory performances, where the audience plays an active role through code, sound, movement, and text.

Colette is a designer and researcher who works with sound as a tool for understanding systems in transition. Through her platform Sound Office, she develops installations, workshops, and sonic devices that investigate energy infrastructures, care environments, and shifting ecologies. Her recent projects include documenting the sonic heritage of Bornholm’s energy transition, studying “mechaphony” in hospital spaces, and designing listening devices for coastal ecosystems.

Thanks to the Artist-in-Residence Program, data and digital models can be understood not only as tools for efficiency and supervision, but also as means to rethink the relationship between technology, society, and the environment.
