PRL and APL at Science for Industry (S4i) 2026

The PRL and APL group from iTEAM took part in the Science for Industry (S4i) fair in Madrid, with the participation of Salvador Sales, Francisco Marqués, Javier Madrigal, and Luis Alberto Sánchez Domínguez from the PRL and CalSens, and Felipe Vico from APL.

During the event, PRL presented the prototype “High-performance fibre optic sensor system for acoustic signals detection”, an advanced fibre-optic sensor system for acoustic signal detection, with applications in environmental monitoring, medical diagnosis, and underwater detection. This development stands out for key advantages such as immunity to electromagnetic fields and multiplexing capability in distributed sensor networks, which are essential for demanding and complex environments. In addition, they also took part in a pitch session to present our new spin-off CalHard, focused on fibre-optic sensors for extreme temperature applications.

Moreover, APL presented, within the framework of the MAOCOM-6G project (MFA/2022/056), two prototypes of 3D-printed dielectric lenses designed using GPU-accelerated adjoint methods to control phase and amplitude, thereby enabling beamforming. The demonstration featured a monofocal lens (20 GHz) and a multifocal lens (16.6 GHz and 24 GHz), together with simulation results and experimental validation carried out in an anechoic chamber. This line of work paves the way for lightweight, high-gain components that can be rapidly manufactured for future 6G communication architectures.

PRL and APL’s participation in Science for Industry (S4i) 2026 reinforced iTEAM’s commitment to transferring cutting-edge research into real-world industrial applications.
