The Spanish node of the European project IMAGINE-B5G, led by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), successfully hosted its final workshop on 24 March 2026. The event marked a significant milestone for the project, showcasing three years of intensive validation of advanced 5G functionalities across diverse industrial and social sectors.
Since its inception in 2023, the Spanish facility has been at the forefront of the project’s mission: providing a robust, open platform for large-scale trials. The workshop highlighted the success of the Spanish testbeds located at the UPV Campus, the Port of Valencia, and Matanza (Soria), which together have addressed critical use cases in multimedia, logistics, and smart agriculture.
Industry-Wide Engagement and Collaboration
The event drew a high level of engagement from across the telecommunications and technology ecosystem. The workshop welcomed representatives from major stakeholders and partners, including Telefónica, MASORANGE, Nokia Spain, and Boldyn Networks, as well as key vertical innovators such as Robotnik, Prodevelop, Dendrite, and Ilunion.
Academic and research excellence was also well-represented by delegates from the University of Murcia, University of Oviedo, and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Regional and institutional support was further evidenced by the presence of ISTEC, ODINS, FAVIT, XR-Factory, i2CAT, AVRE, TKI, or the Fundación Valenciaport, reflecting a deeply integrated innovation community.
Delivering Real-World Impact
The session opened with a comprehensive overview of the IMAGINE-B5G project and the specific infrastructure comprising the Spanish node. Speakers detailed how the facility enabled the validation of complex 5G features through more than 40 pilots.
A central highlight of the morning was the presentation of results from the Port of Valencia pilots. These trials—focused on transport and logistics—have been formally recognised as one of the 10 most significant achievements of the European Smart Networks and Services (SNS) programme, underscoring Spain’s leadership in maritime 5G applications.

Immersive Demonstrations and Future Horizons
The workshop went beyond theoretical presentations, offering attendees live demonstrations of several Spanish pilots. These showcases illustrated how 5G connectivity is transforming sectors like Industry 4.0 and healthcare through high-bandwidth, low-latency communication.
Participants also took part in a guided tour of the Immersive Communications Laboratory at the UPV, where they explored the cutting-edge tools used to develop multimedia use cases throughout the project.
The day concluded with a networking session and lunch, where attendees discussed the legacy of IMAGINE-B5G. The consensus among the experts present was clear: the experimental facilities provided by the Spanish node have been instrumental in bridging the gap between laboratory research and commercial deployment, establishing a blueprint for future B5G and 6G evolution in Europe.
