🏢 iTEAM Research Institute hosts an international interdisciplinary visit!

The iTEAM had the pleasure of hosting the SEMF Interdisciplinary School, an international programme that brings together students and researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, with the aim of fostering dialogue and learning across disciplines.

As part of their visit, participants explored several of the institute’s core research facilities, including the immersive holographic lab, the photonics laboratory, and the antennas and propagation lab; gaining insight into the advanced technologies being developed and tested at the iTEAM.

🔹 Other universities have also taken part in this program, including Harvard University, with presentations by Jacob Barandes and Johanna Hoffman; the The Glasgow School of Art, represented by Katarina Rankovic; Tufts University, with Michael Levin; and Itzi Aldecoa Tamayo from the University of Sussex and the ICCUB, among others.

🙏 It was a pleasure to spend time with such a curious, diverse and open-minded group.

📢 The Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM Research Institute participates in the 11th meeting of the European COST Action CA20120 INTERACT

The Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM Research Institute took part in the 11th meeting of the European COST Action CA20120 INTERACT, focused on the assessment of electromagnetic exposure in advanced telecommunications networks and its implications for health and society.

🔹 Conchi Garcia Pardo, Ramón y Cajal researcher at iTEAM and chair of the working group on electromagnetic exposure within the INTERACT action, presented the latest developments of the EMERGE-5G Project project. Her presentation focused on electromagnetic exposure in 5G networks during mass events, highlighting that these networks operate effectively even under high user density conditions, without exceeding established exposure limits.

🔹 Sergio Castelló Palacios, postdoctoral researcher at iTEAM, took part in the working group on communications and health, contributing to the analysis of potential effects of emerging technologies from a multidisciplinary perspective.

🔹 In addition, predoctoral researcher César Montaner Cardoso presented his work on calibration methods for RF Digital Twins (RF-DT). His research introduces a novel metric to evaluate the quality of simulations, allowing for better alignment with real-world measurements. The study covers multiple frequency bands and evaluation metrics, representing a significant step forward in the development of reliable RF-DTs, which are essential for the design and optimization of future 6G networks.

🚀 iTEAM Research Institute participates in #INNOEspai

#INNOEspai is an event organized by the ESPAI AERO COMUNITAT VALENCIANA cluster with the support of the Conselleria de Innovación, Industria, Comercio y Turismo. Its aim is to showcase the capabilities of the Valencian aerospace ecosystem and promote collaboration between companies, government, and technological institutions.

The event brought together institutional representatives and experts from leading companies in the sector, and was structured around various panel discussions focused on key areas such as defense, industrial innovation, talent, emergency management, and space infrastructure.
In the latter panel, dedicated to the capabilities of Valencian space infrastructure to cover the full cycle of a mission, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) was represented by Vicente Boria Esbert, a researcher from the GAM group at iTEAM.

🔭 It was a productive and collaborative fair, and we’ll be delighted to participate again next year!

📢 Beatriz Ortega Tamarit participated in the Management Committee and Technical Meeting of the COST Action CA22104 BEiNGWISE.

Beatriz Ortega Tamarit, researcher at the Photonics Research Labs (PRL) of the iTEAM Research Institute, participated in the Management Committee and Technical Meeting of the COST Action CA22104, titled "Behavioural Next Generation in Wireless Networks for Cyber Security" (BEiNGWISE), that was held at the University of Calabria (Cosenza, Italy).

🔹 This international meeting brought together experts from across Europe to address emerging challenges in wireless network security, with a particular focus on behavioral aspects and next-generation technologies. The COST Action CA22104 aims to develop new frameworks and methodologies for enhancing cybersecurity in increasingly complex and dynamic wireless environments.

On the same day that collaboration agreements were signed between the Consorcio Espacial Valenciano (VSC), the @instaupv, the @universitatvalencia, and the @generalitatvalenciana, our researcher Vicente Boria Esbert explained on SER the role of the GAM group from iTEAM Research Institute in this initiative.

In the interview, Boria details how technology developed in the Valencian Community can help anticipate potential failures in space missions, a crucial aspect for the reliability and safety of satellite systems.

We recently had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Alexander Busch, who spent 10 months with the MCG group of iTEAM at @instaupv. His work focused on power consumption modeling for Wi-Fi access points, a highly relevant topic as we move toward greener and more energy-efficient wireless networks.

🔬Research led by José Capmany and Ramón Martínez Máñez receives support from the European Commission for their groundbreaking ideas to combat cancer cells and develop photonic chips.

The European Research Council (ERC), part of the European Commission, has announced the recipients of the 2025 ERC Proof of Concept Grant.
The projects TRANSBIT, directed by José Capmany, and OncoFlag, led by Ramón Martínez Máñez, are part of an exclusive group of research teams that already hold an ERC Grant and now receive this additional financial boost to help bring some of their current research results closer to real-world application.

➡ José Capmany, professor at the UPV and researcher at the iTEAM within the PRL group, leads the TRANSBIT project, which aims to revolutionize photonic chips and the way computing and optics are integrated. “No one in the world has proposed a similar approach. We’ve used the principles of optics to develop a compatible computing system. This approach carries risks, but we are very confident because the results so far are very promising,” said José Capmany, pleased to receive this prestigious grant but “even more so for what it represents, developing technology, building a team, and then being able to transfer it and create new companies and enterprises.”

🔹ERC (European Research Council) Grants are among the most prestigious tools to promote excellence in research in Europe, accessible only to leading researchers in their fields.

📣 Pau Arce takes part in the European project Future Forward with a talk on AI

Pau Arce, researcher from the COMM group at the iTEAM Research Institute of @instaupv, participated as a speaker in the framework of the Future Forward project, a European Erasmus+ initiative coordinated by the @universitatvalencia in collaboration with various European institutions.

🔹 The Future Forward project aims to bring artificial intelligence (AI) closer to adult citizens, promoting its responsible use in both personal and professional contexts. By enhancing digital skills, the project seeks to equip educators to confidently navigate an increasingly digital environment.

His contribution consisted of an introductory talk on the role of AI in adult education, an essential area to address today’s social, technological, and labor-related challenges. The session provided an overview of how AI can be integrated into adult learning processes, encouraging the safe, ethical, and effective use of these emerging technologies.

📣Renowned KU Leuven Professor Toon van Watersch

📣Renowned KU Leuven Professor Toon van Waterschoot Visits iTEAM for Seminar on Room Acoustics Modeling

The iTEAM was honored to host Professor Toon van Waterschoot from the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT at KU Leuven, Belgium). The visit included a seminar organized by iTEAM's Audio and Communications Signal Processing Group (GTAC), where Professor van Waterschoot presented his latest research in the field of room acoustics modeling.

The seminar, titled "A State-Space Framework for Boundary Integral Equation Modeling in Room Acoustics", introduced a novel approach to acoustic modeling. Professor van Waterschoot explained how the Boundary Integral Equation (BIE), a key tool in wave-based acoustic modeling, can be reformulated in a state-space representation. This new Boundary Integral Operator State-Space (BIOSS) framework builds upon well-established methods such as the Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the Equivalent Source Method (ESM), and opens the door to innovative techniques for estimation, inference, and control in room acoustics.

🏢Researchers from the GAM group at iTEAM participate in IMS 2025!

Researchers from the Microwave Applications Group (GAM) of iTEAM at the @instaupv have participated in the 2025 edition of the @ieeeorg MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS), the leading global event for professionals in the field of microwave and related technologies.

Held annually, IMS is the largest international forum dedicated to the latest advances in RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz technologies. The symposium brings together thousands of researchers, engineers, and representatives from industry and academia, offering a unique space for the presentation of scientific developments, exchange of ideas, and exploration of new technological solutions. The 2025 edition featured technical sessions, interactive forums, specialized workshops, and a large commercial exhibition showcasing the latest products and technologies from major companies in the field.

🔹Members of the GAM group attended the event to present and defend results from various research projects focused on the development of advanced filters for space applications. These developments are key to improving the performance and efficiency of satellite communication systems, radar, and other aerospace technologies.

Miguel Ferrando Bataller, Professor in the Department of Communications at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and founder of the Antennas and Propagation Lab (APL) at iTEAM Research Institute, has been honored with the Professional Career Award at the NTV - Noche de las Telecomunicaciones Valencianas. A well-deserved tribute to more than four decades of outstanding dedication to teaching and research.

📢 David Martín-Sacristán, a renowned research

📢 David Martín-Sacristán, a renowned researcher in the field of telecommunications, has rejoined the MCG group at iTEAM through a Ramón y Cajal contract.

David Martín-Sacristán has built an extensive research career, participating in prominent European projects such as WINNER+, METIS, METIS2020, and 5GCARMEN, as well as collaborating with leading companies like Alcatel mobile, BMW Group, and Huawei. He also served as CTO at the startup Fivecomm, where he played a key role in consolidating the company, developing IoT solutions, and leading projects such as INSIGNIA (within the UNICO R&D 6G program) and the ITN-5VC network (MSCA ITN). Upon his return to iTEAM, Martín-Sacristán will focus his research on the development of the digital twin applied to 6G networks.

👨‍💻 iTEAM Innovation Unit Joins Key European Aerospace Workshop!

The iTEAM Research Institute Innovation Unit took part in the Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing Technologies for a More Sustainable & Resilient Aviation, organized by AIMEN and Tekniker.
The workshop addressed key challenges in sustainability, digitalization, and advanced manufacturing within the aeronautical industry. It brought together leading players in the European aerospace sector such as Airbus, GKN Aerospace, and Collins Aerospace, along with technology centers and innovation organizations.

🔹 During the event, the fibre optic sensors being developed at PRL- CalSens to improve monitoring and structural integrity in aerospace applications were presented. This event provided the Innovation Unit with the opportunity to explore future collaboration prospects in the field of technological innovation.

The MCG and GAM groups at iTEAM of @instaupv stood out with two awards at the Telecommunications Engineering Excellence Awards, granted by the Colegio Oficial y Asociación Española de Ingenieros de Telecomunicación.

🔹@sergiom_13, from the MCG group, received the REINTEL Award for the Best Master's Thesis in Telecommunications Engineering with Social Impact and Sustainability Improvement for his thesis “Channel modeling study in ISAC for 6G”, supervised by Narcís Cardona.

🔹 Vicente Nova Giménez, PhD, from the GAM group, received the HISDESAT Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis in Space Applications: SATCOM, Earth Observation, for his thesis "Development of non-conventional microwave devices based on substrate-integrated technology for advanced applications" supervised by Carmen Bachiller.
