The iTEAM Research Institute of the @instaupv celebrates the inclusion of ten of its researchers in the Ranking of the World Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientists, compiled by @stanford and published by Elsevier.

🔹 Of the 72 UPV researchers featured in this prestigious ranking, ten belong to iTEAM: Jose Capmany, Pascual Muñoz, Salvador Sales, David Barrera Vilar, Daniel Pastor Abellán, Beatriz Ortega Tamarit, Ivana Gasulla Mestre, David Lopez-Perez, David Gomez-Barquero and Miguel Ferrando-Rocher.

🏢 iTEAM participated at MULCOPIM 2025!

The Microwave Applications Group (GAM) of the iTEAM Institute played a prominent role in the 11th International Workshop on Multipactor, Corona and Passive Intermodulation in Space RF Hardware (MULCOPIM 2025). The event, organized by the European Space Agency - ESA in collaboration with the Val Space Consortium and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), was held this year at the UPV campus.

🔹 The workshop, held every two years, alternating between ESA-ESTEC (Noordwijk, The Netherlands) and the CPI-UPV, brought together researchers, engineers, and professionals from the aerospace sector to share the latest advances in the study of high-power effects on passive microwave and high-frequency devices, such as Multipactor, Corona, and Passive Intermodulation (PIM).

🌐 iTEAM Research Institute Innovation Unit Takes Part in the Innoagents Network Meeting by IVACE+i Innovación at the @universidadmh.

Alicia Abad and Francisco Marques , from the Innovation Unit of the iTEAM at the @instaupv, recently took part in the Innoagents Network meeting organized by Instituto Valenciano de Competitividad e Innovación IVACE +I (@generalitatvalenciana).

🏢 During the event, participants took part in training sessions using the LEGO® Serious Play methodology, led by the Implicatum team. The sessions aimed to explore new perspectives in day-to-day work and to foster creativity and engagement in innovation-related activities.
The course, focused on new co-creation methodologies to promote innovation, was designed for the team of specialists that make up the Innoagents Network, promoted by IVACE+i Innovación. This network seeks to connect the scientific, technological, and business spheres, fostering the resolution of challenges within the productive sector through R&D&I.
Finally, they also had the opportunity to visit the PCUMH Prototyping Laboratory at the UMH Science Park, where they explored the wide range of industrial and creative applications of 3D printing technologies in fields such as engineering, healthcare, and manufacturing.

📢 iTEAM Research Institute Take Part in COST Meeting in Lille!

Conchi Garcia Pardo and César Montaner Cardoso, researchers from the Mobile Communications Group (MCG) at the iTEAM Research Institute of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), recently took part in the European COST programme meeting held in Lille, France.

🔹 During the event, Conchi Garcia Pardo, as chair of one of the working groups, leads technical and strategic discussions focused on the current impact of 5G mobile communication systems on electromagnetic fields levels. It was shown that even in cases of maximum capacity, those systems always operate in safety conditions. Besides, the working group led by Dr. Garcia-Pardo analyzed the role of 6G radio strategies on the future levels of electromagnetic fields.

🔹 Meanwhile, César Montaner presented a talk on an innovative algorithm for channel matrix compression in Massive and Gigantic MIMO systems. In his presentation, Montaner explained the operation of this new algorithm, designed to reduce the dimensionality of channel matrices while preserving the essential properties of the original system. He compared his approach with other compression methods, such as Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), using correlation metrics, mean squared error over the channel’s IFFT, and system capacity.

The results showed that the algorithm preserves the fidelity of the original matrices while significantly reducing their size, which could have a major impact on channel dataset generation, Digital Twin development, and the training of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) models. By decreasing the amount of data required for storage and training, the method also achieves a notable reduction in computational cost.

🌐 Salvador Sales, researcher at the Photonics Research Labs (PRL) of the iTEAM at UPV, selected for The Photonics100 2025! 🎉

The Photonics100 list for 2026 has been published by the British magazine Electro Optics, which recognizes the 100 most innovative people shaping the future of photonics worldwide. In this new edition, Professor Salvador Sales at ETSI Telecom and researcher at the Photonics Research Labs (PRL) within the iTEAM Research Institute at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has been selected to join this prestigious international list.

The Photonics100 highlights scientists, engineers, and business leaders whose work is transforming industries such as aerospace, telecommunications, quantum technologies, and healthcare. This list, compiled annually by Electro Optics magazine, recognizes the 100 most influential figures in photonics worldwide, representing a prestigious mark of international recognition.

🔹 Prof. Sales is a world-leading expert in speciality fibre-sensing solutions. Salvador Sales Maicas created and leads a team of more than 30 professionals dedicated to the development of novel and extreme-environment fibre optic sensors. This team spans both the Fibre Optic Devices Group, which he leads within the Photonics Research Lab, as well as the growing spin-off company, CalSens®. A key feature of his work is the design of easily multiplexable sensors, which allow for the simultaneous monitoring of multiple points along a single fibre line, therefore significantly reducing system complexity and installation costs. His work has been key in bringing photonics research from the laboratory to real-world applications in sectors such as aerospace, civil engineering, and energy.

His scientific work has always been driven by a strong focus on real-world application and technology transfer. This commitment is exemplified by the creation of the spin-off company CalSens® SL and by leading numerous technology transfer projects with major industrial partners such as Aguas de Valencia International, Airbus, ArcelorMittal, CalSens®, FGV, Ford Motor Company, and SACYR, among others.

📢 iTEAM actively participates in Innotransfer!

The @parquecientificocpi at the @instaupv hosted the new edition of Innotransfer. The event featured the active participation of the iTEAM Research Institute, with several of its researchers taking part in different sessions and specialized workshops.

@innotransfer is a multisectoral initiative aimed at promoting innovation in strategic sectors of the Valencian Community. Supported by the Conselleria de Innovación, Industria, Comercio y Turismo of the @generalitatvalenciana, it serves as a key platform to strengthen knowledge transfer and public-private collaboration in the scientific and technological fields.

This edition featured the participation of prominent iTEAM researchers:

🔹 Eva Antonino Daviu Antonino, iTEAM director and researcher in the Antennas and Propagation Lab (APL), led the workshop “Linking Earth and Space: Antenna Challenges in NTN”, focused on the challenges of antenna design for communication between terrestrial and non-terrestrial systems.

🔹 Vicente Boria Esbert Boria, full professor in the GAM group and president of the Executive Committee of the Valencian Space Consortium (Val Space), delivered the lecture “Satellite Communications in Critical Situations”, analyzing the essential role of space communications in emergency scenarios.

🔹 David Lopez-Perez, distinguished researcher in the MCG group, participated in the international workshop “Integration of Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks for Aerial and Ground Wireless Connectivity”, addressing the challenges of integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks to improve wireless connectivity.

🌐 Aleksandr Voronov develops antenna with GRIN dielectric lens in collaboration with Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú!

For three months, Aleksandr Voronov, PhD student at the Microwave Applications Group (GAM) of iTEAM Research Institute, carried out a research stay at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). There he collaborated with the Wireless Technologies Group (GTI) on the development of a horn antenna integrated with a GRIN dielectric lens (Gradient Index Lens).

As part of the artificial intelligence and computation project CIAICO/2023/275, funded by the @generalitatvalenciana and co-directed with Professor @nlloret , researcher @jsastrem highlighted the inspiration he found in @lcibogota innovative approach, where creativity and technology come together naturally. He also emphasized the valuable exchanges with Rector Dr. Emilio Jiménez-Ibáñez PhD. MEng., which demonstrated the strength of international cooperation in advancing the future of artificial intelligence.

🔹 For his part, the Rector of LCI Bogotá, Emilio Jiménez-Ibáñez, expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership:
“This collaboration presents us with fascinating challenges on how to integrate AI into creativity, design, and technology to drive innovation in education. This opportunity is not only relevant for higher education institutions but also very exciting for the future of business in every sense. This collaboration opens up new possibilities to connect academic research with innovation, laying the groundwork for future international projects in the field of artificial intelligence.

🔊València advances in biodiversity thanks to the BIOSOUNDSCAPE project!

València now has its first urban sound biodiversity map thanks to BIOSOUNDSCAPE, an innovative project led by Gema Piñero, researcher at the Audio and Communications Signal Processing Group (GTAC) of the iTEAM at the Universitat Politècnica de València.

◼ Through a network of sensors installed in green areas such as the Turia Gardens and the Albufera, soundscapes are captured in real time. These sounds are processed by an artificial intelligence system capable of identifying bird species and acoustic patterns. The information obtained becomes a key tool to improve ecological management and promote new ecotourism experiences in the city. The project not only fosters ecotourism routes in iconic sites but also enables the monitoring and protection of urban biodiversity.

🌐 MCG stands out at the one6G Summit 2025!

The one6G Summit 2025 took place in Bologna (Italy), bringing together industry and academic experts to discuss the advances, challenges, and opportunities that will shape the path toward 6G.

🔹Narcís Cardona, Full Professor and leader of the Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM at the @instaupv and Vice-Chair of one6G, moderated the session Industry Perspective on 6G, where leaders from Huawei, DOCOMO, NGMN, and Rohde & Schwarz discussed the challenges and opportunities that will define the future of telecommunications.

🔹 In addition, MCG researchers presented a groundbreaking demo based on a real-time radio channel sounding system using commercial FMCW sensors. This solution enables the measurement and visualization of monostatic and bistatic channels, allows interaction with scatterers, and provides real-time analysis of mobile and complex scenarios (including drone-based platforms) offering key tools for the development of 6G communications.

The ability to perform these measurements paves the way for studying the physical layer in environments that have so far been difficult to explore, which are fundamental for the advancement of emerging technologies on the road to 6G.

The researchers Mario Annier G. and Miguel Ángel Fuentes Pascual, from iTEAM Research Institute, have been selected to participate in the InspiraTech program, promoted by Fundación Innovación Bankinter. This initiative aims to support PhD students and recent graduates in the challenge of bringing scientific research closer to the market, facilitating knowledge transfer and generating economic and social impact.

📢 iTEAM-UPV showcases XR and 5G innovations at EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 in Poznan!

The iTEAM Research Institute from the @instaupv participated in the EuCNC & 6G Summit, held in Poznan (Poland), as part of the Spanish Facility within the Imagine-B5G project. This annual event is one of Europe’s key conferences on advanced network technologies and the future of 6G connectivity.

🔹 At the event, we showcased our latest developments in XR applications powered by 5G networks, focusing on low-latency, high-immersion experiences. A highlight of the demonstration was a virtual reality tour of UPV’s Immersive Communications Lab, where visitors in Poznan were able to interact in real time with a 3D hologram. It represented a person physically located in Valencia, enabling a live conversation through real-time volumetric capture and 5G-enabled transmission.

This demonstration showcased the potential of 5G to enable novel forms of remote communication using immersive technologies, and demonstrated the capabilities of the infrastructure developed by the IMAGINE-B5G Spanish Facility to support advanced use cases.

The Microwave Applications Group (GAM) of the iTEAM Research Institute attended the IEEE MTT-S NEMO 2025, held in Tianjin (China). This prestigious conference brings together experts and professionals from around the world in the fields of electromagnetic and multiphysics modeling, simulation, and optimization, with applications in radio frequency, microwaves, and terahertz.

🔹 The conference serves as a leading international forum to share scientific and technological advances, discuss new ideas on modeling techniques, present more efficient algorithms and design tools, as well as anticipate the challenges in analyzing and developing emerging technologies.

🖥️ Course on the Impact of New Technologies on Intellectual and Industrial Property, Organized by iTEAM Research Institute with the Support of IVACE+i Innovación and PONS IP.

The Innovation Unit of the iTEAM at @instaupv organized a course titled “Impact of New Technologies on Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights”, as part of the initiatives INNTA1/2024/048 and INNVA2/2023/9, supported by IVACE +i.

The course was delivered by the prestigious firm PONS IPP , a leading reference in the field of Intellectual and Industrial Property, known for its commitment to education and the dissemination of key knowledge in these areas, particularly in contexts related to technological innovation and knowledge transfer.

➡️ The course, taught by Violeta Arnaiz Medinana, a recognized expert in intellectual property law, industrial property, and new technologies, focused on analyzing how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence are transforming the legal landscape and the protection of intangible assets.

The Soundcool team from the GTS group of the iTEAM Research Institute, collaborates with Midimyface creator Ricardo Arbiza from New York University to explore facial MIDI control of Soundcool.org system for cognitive stimulation and education.

👩‍🦱 Using midimyface.com with Soundcool, facial gestures become expressive visual and musical tools. In this demo video, moving just the tip of your nose dynamically controls the frequency of a wave generator, along with several other Soundcool module sliders.

This innovation is opening up exciting new possibilities in music education, accessibility, and neurotechnology; empowering users to control sound and visuals through natural movement and facial expression.

🏢 iTEAM Research Institute hosts an international interdisciplinary visit!

The iTEAM had the pleasure of hosting the SEMF Interdisciplinary School, an international programme that brings together students and researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, with the aim of fostering dialogue and learning across disciplines.

As part of their visit, participants explored several of the institute’s core research facilities, including the immersive holographic lab, the photonics laboratory, and the antennas and propagation lab; gaining insight into the advanced technologies being developed and tested at the iTEAM.

🔹 Other universities have also taken part in this program, including Harvard University, with presentations by Jacob Barandes and Johanna Hoffman; the The Glasgow School of Art, represented by Katarina Rankovic; Tufts University, with Michael Levin; and Itzi Aldecoa Tamayo from the University of Sussex and the ICCUB, among others.

🙏 It was a pleasure to spend time with such a curious, diverse and open-minded group.

📢 The Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM Research Institute participates in the 11th meeting of the European COST Action CA20120 INTERACT

The Mobile Communications Group (MCG) of iTEAM Research Institute took part in the 11th meeting of the European COST Action CA20120 INTERACT, focused on the assessment of electromagnetic exposure in advanced telecommunications networks and its implications for health and society.

🔹 Conchi Garcia Pardo, Ramón y Cajal researcher at iTEAM and chair of the working group on electromagnetic exposure within the INTERACT action, presented the latest developments of the EMERGE-5G Project project. Her presentation focused on electromagnetic exposure in 5G networks during mass events, highlighting that these networks operate effectively even under high user density conditions, without exceeding established exposure limits.

🔹 Sergio Castelló Palacios, postdoctoral researcher at iTEAM, took part in the working group on communications and health, contributing to the analysis of potential effects of emerging technologies from a multidisciplinary perspective.

🔹 In addition, predoctoral researcher César Montaner Cardoso presented his work on calibration methods for RF Digital Twins (RF-DT). His research introduces a novel metric to evaluate the quality of simulations, allowing for better alignment with real-world measurements. The study covers multiple frequency bands and evaluation metrics, representing a significant step forward in the development of reliable RF-DTs, which are essential for the design and optimization of future 6G networks.

🚀 iTEAM Research Institute participates in #INNOEspai

#INNOEspai is an event organized by the ESPAI AERO COMUNITAT VALENCIANA cluster with the support of the Conselleria de Innovación, Industria, Comercio y Turismo. Its aim is to showcase the capabilities of the Valencian aerospace ecosystem and promote collaboration between companies, government, and technological institutions.

The event brought together institutional representatives and experts from leading companies in the sector, and was structured around various panel discussions focused on key areas such as defense, industrial innovation, talent, emergency management, and space infrastructure.
In the latter panel, dedicated to the capabilities of Valencian space infrastructure to cover the full cycle of a mission, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) was represented by Vicente Boria Esbert, a researcher from the GAM group at iTEAM.

🔭 It was a productive and collaborative fair, and we’ll be delighted to participate again next year!
