- UPV researchers evaluate the capabilities of 5G technology to guarantee critical communications between robots, drones, and emergency personnel in complex industrial environments during the project’s pilot tests.
The exercise simulated an industrial accident with a toxic leak that prevented immediate human entry. Using a robotic rover with 5G sensors, the area was inspected and air quality data was transmitted in real time to command centers. This prior intervention ensures that firefighters and police only act when toxicity levels are safe, drastically minimizing human risk and guaranteeing connectivity even if public networks fail.
This experimental project, funded with Next Generation EU European funds from the PRTR, is coordinated by ISTEC (an entity under the Regional Ministry of Finance, Economy and Public Administration), commissioned by the AVSRE (Regional Ministry of Emergencies and Interior), with the participation of UPV, NAE, and Telefónica.
