David Martín-Sacristán, a renowned researcher in the field of telecommunications, has rejoined the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM) at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) through a Ramón y Cajal contract. His incorporation strengthens the Mobile Communications Group (MCG).
David Martín-Sacristán has built an extensive research career, participating in prominent European projects such as WINNER+, METIS, METIS2020, and 5GCARMEN, as well as collaborating with leading companies like Alcatel, BMW, and Huawei. He also served as CTO at the startup Fivecomm, where he played a key role in consolidating the company, developing IoT solutions, and leading projects such as INSIGNIA (within the UNICO R&D 6G program) and the ITN-5VC network (MSCA ITN). Upon his return to iTEAM, Martín-Sacristán will focus his research on the development of the digital twin applied to 6G networks. His work will address several technological challenges:
- The automatic creation and updating of digital replicas with 3D models and precise electromagnetic characterization assisted by sensing.
- Channel modeling through ray tracing.
- Simulation of advanced systems, including cell-free massive MIMO, ISAC, and vehicular communications.
- The application of artificial intelligence for network planning and optimization.
The ultimate goal of the project is to implement a test environment that allows for the validation of the digital twin’s feasibility through a proof of concept.
Welcome back, David!
