The future photonic chip pilot line of Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in L’Eliana has taken an important step forward, following the proposal of Rover Grupo as preferred bidder for the design and construction works.
For iTEAM Research Institute, this is a highly significant development. It reinforces a long-standing scientific and technological trajectory in photonics, microwave photonics, integrated photonics, advanced communications and semiconductor-related technologies.
As part of the European PIXEurope initiative, the pilot line will support the development, validation and scaling of photonic chips, a key enabling technology for telecommunications, artificial intelligence, data centres, advanced computing, precision sensing and biomedical applications. Promoted by UPVfab Micro-fabrication pilot line and iTEAM Research Institute, and scientifically coordinated by Prof. JOSE CAPMANY and Prof. Pascual Muñoz this infrastructure will help bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and industrial deployment.
This step strengthens UPV’s position within the European ecosystem for integrated photonics and advanced semiconductor technologies. A relevant milestone for our institute, for UPV and for the consolidation of Valencia as a strategic hub in photonic chip technologies.
